There are a variety of circumstances in which same-day urgent dental care should be sought. These include the following:

  • Severe or persistent bleeding from the mouth
  • Dental pain that isn’t being relieved with over-the-counter pain medications and is making it hard to function normally or sleep
  • An obviously broken restoration, such as a dental crown, bridge, or denture
  • A significant crack or break in your tooth (you should save the broken part of your tooth if you can find it as it may be possible for your dentist to reattach it)
  • A knocked-out tooth (again, you should save the tooth if you can since it may be able to be placed back in the socket)
  • An abscess that has formed around a tooth
  • Obvious signs of infection, which include inflammation, redness, visible pus, and severe dental pain
  • Severe facial trauma affecting the mouth or jaw
